Child Safeguarding Statement

  • Name of service being provided: Wexford School Completion Programme
  • Nature of service and principles to safeguard children from harm (brief outline of what our service is, what we do and our commitment to safeguard children): Wexford School Completion Programme is a TUSLA funded programme tasked with the aim to increase the numbers of young people staying in primary and second level school and in doing so improve the numbers of pupils who successfully complete the Senior Cycle, or the equivalent. Work is carried out through a variety of mediums through one to one, small group or whole class group scenarios. The supports are provided in seven school settings, Selskar College Westgate Wexford, Scoil Mhuire Coolcotts Wexford, Kennedy Park NS Wexford, St John of God the Faythe Wexford, C.B.S N. S, Green st., Wexford, Mercy Convent Johns Rd Wexford, Piercestown N.S Wexford. Some home visits or interagency visits may be carried out also.
  • PRINCIPLES TO SAFEGAURD CHILDREN FROM HARM:

    • All Wexford School Completion Staff are Garda Vetted by each school.
    • All Wexford School Completion staff will have undertaken TUSLA online Child Protection Training.
    • All Child Protection Concerns will be reported to the DLP and subsequently on to the relevant school DLP / TUSLA in a timely manner.
    • All children will have written consent from parent or guardian before work can commence with any child in a one to one or small group setting.
    • In the case of a drop-in scenario with a young person with out consent all relevant child protection procedures will be followed, and consent sought for follow up work.
    • DLP of the project is a Mandated officer under Schedule 2 of the Children’s First act 2015 point 16 subsection J.

  • Risk Assessment

We have carried out an assessment of any potential for harm to a child while availing of our services. Below is a list of the areas of risk identified and the list of procedures for managing these risks.

  • Procedures

    Our Child Safeguarding Statement has been developed in line with requirements under the Children First Act 2015, Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children (2017), and Tusla’s Child Safeguarding: A Guide for Policy, Procedure and Practice. In addition to the procedures listed in our risk assessment, the following procedures support our intention to safeguard children while they are availing of our service:

 

  • Procedure for the management of allegations of abuse or misconduct against workers/volunteers of a child availing of our service;
  • Procedure for the safe recruitment and selection of workers and volunteers to work with children;
  • Procedure for provision of and access to child safeguarding training and information, including the identification of the occurrence of harm;
  • Procedure for the reporting of child protection or welfare concerns to Tusla;
  • Procedure for maintaining a list of the persons (if any) in the relevant service who are mandated persons;
  • Procedure for appointing a relevant person.

 

All procedures listed are available upon request.

• Implementation

We recognise that implementation is an on-going process. Our service is committed to the implementation of this Child Safeguarding Statement and the procedures that support our intention to keep children safe from harm while availing of our service.

This Child Safeguarding Statement will be reviewed on 3rd December 2019

or as soon as practicable after there has been a material change in any matter to which the statement refers.
